The Freedom to Change

Freedom to changeDo you give yourself the freedom to change?

I don’t know how long I’m going to be writing articles for this blog (hopefully very long!), but the possibility is rather high that I will change some of my opinions.

And that’s OK.

Because we all grow. And I’m growing, too. So don’t be surprised about such a thing. In fact, expect it. πŸ™‚

The freedom to change

It’s about the freedom to change.

Do you still adhere to old beliefs that you once thought were appropriate, but hinder you now?

That’s not to say you shouldn’t have your set of core beliefs which stay relatively stable. But if you’re wrong, you can change your opinion. If you see things in a new way, it’s only natural to change.

Where do you know your belief or situation has changed, but you are afraid to let it go completely? It could be a habit. Or it could be a relationship.

Are you afraid to change, because your environment expects you to be a certain type of person?

Did you already change in the inside, but are you afraid of showing the real you?

Do you think you have to keep a facade up?

Change is natural

Your body changes all the time.

In fact, almost every part of your body changes constantly, you replace cells all the time.

There is one constant in our life, and it is change. It may sometimes not be obvious, but just look at some older pictures of yourself.

Compare those pictures from 10 or 20 years ago with a current picture. Yikes! Did you really have this terrible haircut back then? And the colour of those shoes! Apparently so. You liked those things back then. πŸ™‚

Shape your world

“This is your world. Shape it, or someone else will.”
–Gary Lew

Embrace change. Shape it, so that it works to your advantage. If it’s possible, be the one that initiates the change, so that you decide what to change.

Life is change.

Opinions can change.

Beliefs can change.

So give yourself the freedom to change and do and say new things, even if they’re completely the opposite of your old self.

“What do I care about my chitchat from yesterday?”

I used to fight against change, but reading this, I realized that I really wasn’t winning the battle at all, it seems. πŸ˜€ I am more accepting of it today though, than I have ever been before. I think that has come with age, and understanding that if we don’t go along with the changes taking place in our lives, the changes will run us over like an 18-wheeler and insist on taking place, anyway. Which causes a lot more frustration than it would if we just went along with it.

My site is mostly about what you’ve written here; reaching the place in life when we realize that what we use to believe is no longer pertinent to where we are at this moment.

Thanks for sharing this, Peter. I really enjoyed the read, mate. πŸ™‚

Yes, it’s far better to accept change as something natural, and try to shape it as much as you can. πŸ™‚

I used to hate change Peter because I was so set in my ways and comfortable. But over time and as the years pass us by it’s just inevitable I believe.

I also know several people in my life that definitely fight change and boy do they ever need to. I just think that as time goes on our thoughts, some beliefs and our circumstances change so we need learn to go with it. All I know is that so far, it’s definitely been for the better.

Great post and thanks for sharing your thoughts with us on this topic.

I also have found that accepting change is far better than to fight it, so I can relate to your experience.

Here is a good quote I just remembered, it’s by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa:
“If we want things to stay as they are, things will have to change.”

  • Hey Peter! Fabulous post I must say. But there are some things that have connections to the past and that don’t allow people to change even if they want to. By the way I really liked the quotes you put up in between your post. They’re really inspiring, nonetheless your post is also amazing.
